Our country has lost a beloved performer and philanthropist with the passing of Dolly Parton. Widely revered as the “Queen of Country,” Dolly was even more highly regarded as an accomplished businesswoman and humanitarian. Her legacy will live on for generations to come, not only through her music, but also through the many causes she devoted her time, treasure, and talent to support. As a mark of respect for her service, it is fitting that flags be lowered to half-staff in her memory. Therefore, pursuant to Chapter 3100 of the Texas Government Code, I direct that Texas flags be lowered statewide immediately to half-staff in honor of the life and public service of Dolly Rebecca Parton. Flags should remain at half-staff for seven days through sunset on Tuesday, September 1, 2026. Flags should return to full-staff the following day. The First Lady and I extend prayers of comfort for the Parton and Dean families during their time of grief, and we urge all Texans to remember and honor her integrity, inspiration, and joy that she shared with our state and nation.
